The Railsplitters are the official
2012 Pickin' in the Pines band contest winners!!
We are on cloud 9 right now!
Our weekend started early Friday morning as we loaded up the van and headed down the road toward Flagstaff, AZ. We got to see some amazing sights such as the Canyonlands in Utah as well as Mexican Hat Rock.
As we approached our destination we decided it would be stupid not to stop at the Grand Canyon, so that's exactly what we did. We watched a gorgeous pink sunset over the canyon as we listened to the sound of a raven gliding over our heads.
Then we woke up early Saturday morning and with lots of coffee in hand, headed over to the ampitheater to see some of our favorite bands perform. We saw Foghorn Stringband, Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands, Blue Highway, and many more. We ended our day by listening to our fellow Boulder-ites, Hot Rize and their friends Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers. It was a great day but nerves were creeping in.
SUNDAY MORNING! Well...more coffee, more nerves....you know how it goes. But luckily the audience was very kind to us and we had a great time on the stage. After making it through the prelims we walked over to main stage to give 'em one more song. Dusty lead us in some a capella harmonies on "Lonesome Feelin'" and then cranked up the hard driving banjo. Peter killed it on the mandolin! Leslie was lookin' and playin' as good as ever and I was having SO MUCH FUN! Thanks so much to all our friends and family for supporting our decision to pick bluegrass. And....we hope to revisit Flagstaff this time next year!
Please come see us play a CBMS show at the Altona Grange in Longmont, CO on Oct 13th. We'll be sharing the stage with Denver-based bluegrassers, Kantankerous. That's all for now. Thanks for reading! -LS
